All players start with 0 exp, which is the lowest level. (Recruit) Experience points are composed of a player's military score and economic score. Their military score increases when they defeat troops. Their economic score increases when they construct buildings The higher level a player is, the more points are required to ascend to the next level. Rank is determined by what level a player is at. There are 30 ranks in the entire game, although there are only seven players currently in the highest rank. (Commander in Chief.)

Ranks have minimal purpose in-game. They generally tell how long a player has been playing, so high ranking people are generally favored to join a coalition. Certain ranks are also required to research high-level officers. For example, one must be at least rank 9 (a corporal) to participate in Elite Challenges.

The following chart lists the level and experience points required for each rank.
